Should I use 2x4 or 2x6 (2 x 4 or 2 x 6) construction?

This topic is available here on The Repair-Place forum
I want to put an addition on my house and I don't know if I should use 2x4 or 2x6 studs in the construction.

Why should I use 2 x 4 and why should I use 2 x 6 ? What's the difference between 2x4 and 2x6 construction?
There is no reason to use 2x6 construction except for the insulation value. In most applications there is no structural reason to go to the 2x6 size studs except for insulation 'R' value. In fact down south like Florida a lot of houses use 2x3 construction (maybe thats why they blow away!). They don't need the high 'R' value insulation to keep themselves warm like up here in the north. I would just match the style and thickness of the walls used in the rest of the house.
In a 2x4 wall one could get around R13 in the walls where in a 2x6 wall you could get R19.
