How do I pick a tile / carpet / wood flooring contractor?

This topic is available here on The Repair-Place forum I am going to change some of the flooring in my living room and kitchen so I need a flooring contractor. What is the best way to find one? I would go to your local flooring show room. They will recommend someone or even install themselves. The big box stores like Home Depot and Lowes will get the job done fast but I have had a lot of complaints from people with damage caused by some of the installers. So get references from the installer they plan to use and call them. TheGuru
