Central Vaccums

This topic is available here on The Repair-Place forum
We have a central vac in the house, that part works just fine. What I need to replace is the hose, and vac head.

Can I use any brand of hose? Do they make the suction contacts in wall (plug in) universal in size?
Take the hose to Home Depot and compair to the Nutone brand they sell. See if it will fit into the display and turn it on! Compare the wall recepticle with the one you have at home and see if it even looks the same.

Some use low voltage in combination with 120 volts. This is what I have in my home. There is a ring at the end of the hose that touches the two spring loaded pins in the hose recepticle and this turns on the vac out in the garage or basement. There are two small holes below the hose sized hole, where two pins in the hose fit into and make the 120v connection. This is used for a power head and the 120v hose is much different that regular hose (as well as 5 times the price $170.00). The high voltage wire is built into the hose itself.

Some use only low voltage and there is NO wire in the hose (you can't really see the wire from just looking at the hose, it's built into the rib design) The metal ring at the end touches the two spring loaded pins in the recepticle and this turns on the vac out in the garage or basement.

Hope this helps!
Thanks I'll take a look. I know it has a metal ring around the end when you put it in it starts up. I'll take it into Home Depot.
Glad to be of service!!!
