dryer

This topic is available here on The Repair-Place forum
I have a 14 month old gas dryer and the drum won't turn. All the lights, etc., are functional. What should I look for before calling in someone?
Do you hear a motor spinning? It's kind of quiet so you might not hear it, but if it IS, then it's the belt that has broken. There is a belt that goes around a pulley on the motor, then around the whole drum. To get at this you need to loosten the exterior case screws, then pull the front and sides of the case off. the drum is held up by a felt gasket at the door so it will drop a little when you remove the case. Now there should be a belt broken on the bottom. there is a belt tensioner that keeps the belt tight that may have slipped out of it's groove at the bottom too.
Good Luck!
