broken electronic smoke detector

This topic is available here on The Repair-Place forum
My electric smoke detector beeps so loud, but this was after the power went out. When the power came back on I was not able to stop the beeping and chirping. How do I fix this?
Is the beeping continuous, or just a loud chirp every 5 or 10 minutes?

If it's a beep every 5 or 10 minutes, does the smoke detector have a battery backup? Perhaps the power being out has drained the battery and it now needs replacement?

Just a couple of quick guesses.
Yep if there is a battery, it probably needs to be replaced. You can't put it back up without a battery in it either. There is a little lever that sticks out when there is no battery installed.

By the way, if your smoke detector is more than 5 years old you should be considering replacement anyway. The life span is about 5 years. Some say 7 years and a few say 10 years, but most of the older ones should be replaced after about 5. So if the beeping keeps up.... purchase a new one. It even comes with a fresh battery! You can also purchase a lithium ion battery that will last the life of the detector or about 10 years so you never have to think about that again! They should be for sale in the same place the detectors are. Some of the newer smoke detectors come with the lithium ion battery already!

There are lots of brands out there but I like the FireX brand available at most electrical supply stores as well as major hardware stores or Kidde brand available at the Home Depot.
