This topic is available here on The Repair-Place forum | Hi Guru,
What suggestion do you have for a mailbox (street)
that stands up to vandals?
We have replaced our box several times over several years.
Our mail is mostly routed to another address, but occasionally
we get important mail at the street mailbox.
Our friend says the police made him take down a vandal
proof (double steel ) box. The reason is they felt it would not
give in an accident and could injure a driver if hit.
The police took our report, so it is on record. Numerous
people on our street had boxes damaged or destroyed
this weekend.
We are sad
Any suggestions are appreciated..

I sympathise with you. It's the great Senior prank to vandalize mailboxes after the prom or after graduation of something like that. Woo hoo, aren't they cool.
My mailbox is right next to the telephone pole. The letter carrier suggested the location, and it prevents vandals riding down the proper direction of the street from hitting it with a baseball bat. Also, for the first 12 years we were here it prevented the snowplows from knocking it over.
Unfortunately, they got a new plow blade 2 winters ago, and it throws the snow much higher and knock down everyone's mailbox. After replacing mine with a brand new box and having it destroyed the next snowstorm, I started calling the town to replace my mailbox. And they do. | Hi Ron,
Thanks so much for your support.
I have a call into the postal supervisor to discuss the events. | |
